What is a stereotype? Webster’s Dictionary defines stereotype as a “widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.” For example, if I said “Librarian,” did your mind envision a female in her 50’s wearing glasses? What about a mechanic?
While we may never be able to destroy stereotypes, we shouldn’t allow them to deter us from our dreams. Factors such as our gender and age should not stop us from studying and following our true passions. Our actions, character, and work product will help forge new opportunities for future generations.
Hopefully, one day society will learn to read a book before judging it by its cover.
